Welcome to the Blue Bell Camp at Hay.

We offer glamorous bell tent accommodation for the duration of the Hay Festival. The countryside of Hay is renowned for its impressive landscape of rolling hills and the meandering river Wye, and our encampment occupies prime position, just 5 minutes walk to Hay town centre, but nestled away amongst the trees by the banks of the river.

On arrival you will check in at the Blue Bell reception and be shown to your bell tent with its comfy bed and furnishings. The camp is serviced with high quality event loos and hot showers and you will find hair drying facilities and mobile phone charging points in reception.

The tents can sleep 2-4 guests in queen-size or single camp beds and are ready and waiting with fresh bed linen, warm duvets and pillows custom made carpets, and battery-powered lamps and side tables.

All the tents are 5m wide so a courtly sized space for couples or families! The site itself is in an expansive field less 5 minutes walk from the town centre, making this an ideal retreat for Hay Festival attendees.

Breakfast in bed service and Home-Cooked Hampers

Home-Cooked Hampers will be providing freshly prepared home-made Breakfast, Lunch and Supper Picnic Boxes for Blue Bell guests to take to one of the many events at Hay, or to have delivered to their beds in the morning!

Home-Cooked Hampers is a luxury picnic hamper service, sourcing fresh produce from farmers, fishmongers and butchers, the Home-Cooked veg patch, as well as artisan suppliers. With breakfast, lunch and supper catered for, there’s plenty of free time to sit and listen and to not miss a single minute of Hay.

Hay itself has few restaurants, and we have introduced this service for our guests for the convenience of being able to dine, picnic style at the camp- rather than jostling with the crowds for festival food.

Before you order, please browse the breakfast, lunch and supper menu's at our Cuisine page here, and add to your tent order below. You can order as many breakfast, lunch and supper boxes as you wish for the duration of your weekend stay, we will be in touch to confirm which days you require your boxes on, and what your selection from the menu is.

Home cooked hampers will be available to add to your booking from Friday- Monday (bank holiday) only, we regret to say that this is not available between Tuesday- Thursday of the festival.

We are not taking payments at this stage, but will be in touch with you 7 days prior to the event to confirm your orders from the menu, which day you would like to receive them, and to take a payment.

FAQ

What is a Blue Bell Tent?
Blue Bell Tents are traditional canvas 5m bell tents, originating from 19th century military camps and reimagined today as versatile tent hotel rooms. The entrance doorway is over 5ft, and the tallest part of the tent is almost 7ft high.
Is there power?
There is no electricity supplied to the tents themselves, and all lighting is either battery or solar powered. When we are operating a reception tent (at most festivals we attend) there will be facilities to charge your phone and hairdryers supplied with mirrors.
What comes included in the tents?
The tents are all 5m in diameter and come fully furnished with the queen size double or single Blue Bell wooden camp bed with a real mattress, 200 thread count pure cotton bed linen, winter tog duvets and fluffy pillows, sea-grass custom made flooring, brass vanity mirror, atmospheric lighting and lockable doors.
What should I bring with me?
You are welcome to bring whatever it is that will make your stay even more comfortable. This might be some deckchairs and a camp table, a picnic rug or cooking stove (please check with the festival you are attending on the specific rules). You will also need to bring a towel and toiletries and soap, AND don’t forget your wellingtons or boots! Blue Bell Tents come with bedding and bed linen. We have blankets available to buy and take home with you if you feel the nights are chillier than normal, otherwise you are welcome to bring your own.
Is there a deposit system?
Payment for booking is required in advance, and we do not take any additional payment as a security deposit.
